Jerad Hutchens, President of Summit Contracting, provided background on the company’s agricultural focus and plans for future expansion in Seward. “We’re an ag-based business, so putting our stake in the ground in the agricultural community of Seward is a great fit,” said Hutchens. “Being here is a big step for our business and for our ability to better serve farmers in this area.”

John Southwick, Chief of Sales, shared his appreciation for the Seward community and Summit’s team. “We ultimately chose Seward because of its rich agricultural history, strong community values, and the welcoming spirit of its people,” said Southwick. The Seward Chamber and Economic Development team played an instrumental role in helping Summit Contracting secure the land for the new facility, and the company is excited to establish this location as its southern headquarters. Southwick acknowledged the hard work and dedication that has contributed to the company’s rapid growth. Southwick added, “We’ve come a long way, fast,” and further expressed gratitude to Summit’s partners, suppliers, vendors, and employees and their families.

The new 100-by-138-foot shop currently houses Summit’s electrical, concrete, building, and millwright crews, as well as inventory and equipment, which allows Summit to operate more efficiently and serve customers across the region. Future phases of the development will include office space and a warehouse to further support Summit's operations and increase capacity to serve even more local farmers.

Summit Contracting was founded in 2009 by Tyler and Katy Samuelson in Platte, South Dakota. What started as a small operation has grown into a multi-location business with locations throughout South Dakota, Iowa, and Nebraska. Despite this growth, Summit’s core values of quality craftsmanship, strong relationships, and customer commitment have remained unchanged.

Summit Contracting is a full-service, on-farm construction company, specializing in premium grain bins, grain systems, post-frame and metal buildings. The company also offers full-site work services including excavation, concrete, water & sewer, and electrical services, managing projects from start to finish to meet the unique needs of the agricultural community.
